the Big Kahuna is one of Georgia’s Most Influential?!

Jenn and Freddy Bensch at the 2011 420 Fest

Who woulda thunk it – as a fresh(ish) out of college kid starting a brewery in the hood back in 1997 to one of Georgia’s most influential people?

Freddy Bensch co-founder, and the Big Kahuna here at SweetWater is now rubbing elbows on Georgia Trend’s “100 Most Influential Georgians” list with Nathan Deal – our Governor, The owner of the Falcons – Arthur Blank, US Senator Saxby Chambliss, Chief Justice of Georgia’s Supreme Court – Carol Hunstein, Chuck Leavell of the Rolling Stones and Allman Brothers and a plethora of other movers and shakers in the great state of Georgia!  We can’t wait to share the news with his mom, she’ll be thrilled at what a fine young man her son has turned into. 15 year’s of heady beers for sure, and (allegedly) influencing folks all along the way!! Wait till they get a load of us at the official party next week!

*note* the story says that our solar array is already up and running, but it is still in the works (thanks for nothing Solyndra!)

2012 Lineup of SweetWater Brews released

Lots of new brews on the hook for the new year.

We’ve been kicking the tires over the last few weeks, trying to figure how much our brewery, and brewers could handle as we are looking ahead to 2012.   Check out the full fishing calendar below, and click on it to download the pdf.

Some of the highlights are the return of the Exodus Porter coming in Mid January on draft and in six packs.  The introduction of LowRYEder, a flame throwin’ Rye IPA ignited by a 25% shot of rye malt capped by a super hoppin’ blast of Mt Hood and Centennial hops making this IPA bounce!  Previously enjoyed as the Crank Tank Rye’d Ale, the CT will get a new brew this fall so we can take the LowRYEder year round, and a few new creations from the Dank Tank – the 420IPA, a big ol dry hopped version of our 420, The Gimp – a bottle conditioned ale designed to be kept in the cellar and broke out for only your most special guests, and the Creeper coming back in 4 packs this fall.

In addition to all those brews, we have our 15th anniversary ale on the horizon.  Feb 17th marks 15 official years for SweetWater, as we sold our first keg of beer out of the original Fulton Industrial Blvd brewery back on Feb 17th, 1997.  We are celebrating with a monster party at the brewery so we can break in our expanded brewery proper like on Feb 18th from 2 – 6, and with a special 15th anniversary ale.  Kevin McNerney, our co-founder and original Brewmaster, came back to the brewery to create this batch with Freddy Bensch, our Big Kahuna, Mark Medlin – our Brewmaster, Nick Nock, our Head Brewer, and Dock Rigsby, our Head Cellarman.  The 15th anniversary ale will be a giant version of our original ESB recipe – stay tuned for more details on that sucker.
