Howdy hop heads. We’ve got some updates for you as things are comin’ together for our 2012 IPA Day Tantalizingly Tasty Tour Tap Takeover this Thursday.
In addition to the special stash we’ve pulled from the cellar to put on tap (here’s the list in case you missed it last time), our brewers have prepared a few extra specialty casks for the occasion as well, including:
- “Ole Faithful” – IPA with black peppercorn
- “SweetWater Julep” – LowRYEder with mint
- “Mustache Rye’d” – LowRYEder with Centennial hops
We’ll be tapping these in select locations throughout the brewery. Follow us on Facebook for an updated schedule of where you can find ‘em and when they’ll be tapped.
Some food truck friends are even getting in on the fun. They’ll be serving up some awesome IPA-inspired items on their menus including:
- Grapefruit IPA pops from King of Pops
- Finger-lickin’ treats smothered in IPA BBQ sauce from the Sweet Auburn BBQ truck
- Soft pretzels with IPA beer cheese and LowRYEder mustard from the folks at African Sky
- Delectable IPA dipping sauce paired with the infamously fresh fries from Fry Guy

Not in the Atlanta area? Don’t worry; we’ve got a handful of specialty IPA casks floatin’ out into select locations in honor of the holiday too. It’s been a busy couple of months for our brewery operations folks over here as we continue to keep workin’ on our last phase of the expansion — the mighty brew house. We’ve had a few danktastic deliveries arriving at 195 Ottley Drive over the past week alone and our guys are excited to start getting their hands on some of the new equipment that’s arrived.
So far, we’ve got three out of five of our new 1000-barrel fermentation tanks, and all four bright tanks, set in place in the new brew house. Fun fact: If you tried to drink an entire helpin’ from our new 1000-barrel tank, it’d take you nearly 87 years drinkin’ a gallon a day. I bet we’d have some folks ready to volunteer for the challenge.
Yesterday, we welded the legs on to the new mash mixer and had the crane set ‘er down into the new brew house. This morning, the crew also managed to get the bottom piece of our new lauter tun and the wort receiver together and put into place as well. We’re lookin’ to get the rest of the later tun in tonight and the new kettle put together and installed next week. Things are a comin’ together!
We’re trekkin’ along and gettin’ work done ’cause our gang is pretty pumped to play with all our shiny new toys. After we get all the pieces polished up, it’s looking like we’ll be ready to rock ‘n roll with a finalized brew house later this summer, if not early fall. But don’t worry your pretty little hop heads, nothing goes to waste here…we’re keeping the old 50-barrel brew house in tact to let our hair down and brew some experimental headiness just for fun. So stay tuned for that.

Sweet eight-pound, six-ounce newborn baby Jesus, IPA Day has returned. On Thursday, Aug. 2, craft beer enthusiasts across the world will raise a toast together to one of beer’s most iconic and widely brewed styles – India Pale Ale.
This international grassroots movement was created as an opportunity for the entire craft beer community to combine forces and advocate craft beer through increased education and global awareness…and what better way to do all that fancy schmancy stuff than to come raise a few heady pints of our redickulously delicious SweetWater IPA with us for the IPA Day festivities.
We’ll be celebrating here at the brewery on Aug. 2 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. and breaking out the best of our IPA stash for y’all to try, created from our own hombe of headiness, our Head Brewer, Nick Nock. We’ll have the following kegs on draft:
- Fresh Sticky Nugs
- Buckeye’d Brown Eye
- Wet Dream
- Woodford Reserve Barrel aged IPA
- Border Hopper
- Hop Ghoulash
- Our new year-round rye’d IPA – LowRYEder
- And of course, our classic SweetWater IPA
